Is my child ready to begin dance classes?

Thinking about enrolling your little one in dance? It’s a wonderful decision, but timing makes all the difference. At NFAD, we believe there are key signs that show your child might be ready—and our four-week trial class is a perfect way to explore.

Signs Your Child May Be Ready for Dance

Look out for:

  • Basic motor skills

    • Can they hop, march, or climb with some control?

    • By age 2½, most children can follow simple movements.

  • Short attention spans

    • Can they stay engaged for 30–45 minutes?

  • Social interaction

    • Are they showing curiosity about other children?

    • Even small group play can signal dance readiness.

  • Enjoyment of music and movement

    • Do they love dancing at home or tapping along to tunes?

These indicators mean your child is ready to thrive in a class focused on fun, creativity, coordination—and making friends!

Why We Use a Four‑Week Trial

Starting young can feel overwhelming for some children—so our trial helps to:

  • Let teachers and students get to know each other

  • Build early confidence and familiarity

  • Give families a true sense of class atmosphere and structure

It’s a low-pressure way to explore and decide before taking the next step.

What to Expect in the First Weeks

  • Gentle, play-based movement tailored to age and ability

  • A focus on rhythm, balance, coordination—and lots of smiles!

  • A supportive class structure with familiar music and themes
